Barnes Wins 10th PBA Title
Professional Bowler Chris Barnes won his 10th career Denny's PBA Tour title today. More importantly it put him in the lead for the 2007-2008 PBA Player of the Year race with his second victory of the year. His title didn't come easy as he had to luck out in both the semi-final and final games. Only because his opponents being even unluckier with their possible winning shots was he able to eke out the victory. In the semi-final he had the game well in hand when he threw a 4-6-7 split in the 10th frame to give Mika Koivuniemi a chance to win the game. He only needed a mark and 8 pins to win, but luckily for Barnes, Mika also threw a split, the 3-10 and then chopped it to let Chris escape with a 9 pin victory. After Ken Simard, in his first career TV appearance, beat Wes Malott, it set up the final of Barnes against Simard for the title. Barnes again tried to give his opponent the game, when needing only a mark and 9 pins to shut out Simard, left a 2-8-10 givng Simard a chance to win the title by rolling 3 strikes. The pressure on Barnes grew when Simard rolled the 1st strike but then it was over as he got 8 pins on the second ball. With the victory Barnes goes in front of Walter Ray Williams by 4 points with 3 more tournaments to go including the season ending 65the Denny's U.S. Open. It should be an exciting finish with Chris and Walter Ray battling to the finish.
